At the end of every year, it's common practice to look back on the year and evaluate what went well and what didn't- both in our personal lives, and in business.
Reflecting back, however, is only half of the equation.
Once we look back and figure out the things that we didn't do so well at, we have to then come up with a plan to change those things. How will we ensure that we don't repeat those same mistakes? How can we go forward guaranteeing that the end of the next year doesn't look exactly the same as the end of this year?
1. Plan ahead. Have a plan. Write it down. Set goals. Identify the things that you didn't do so well at that you would like to improve upon this year. Statistics are clear that people who write their goals are more likely to achieve them. Having a written plan can also help when it comes to prioritizing spending.
2. If you haven't already- jump on the social media bandwagon. Social media isn't going anywhere anytime soon. If you aren't taking advantage of being present in this space, then you are likely missing out on reaching potential customers who your competition will be reaching. Many companies are now allocating more funds toward social media. If you aren't able to manage your own social media accounts, consider hiring a company like Front Man Marketing who can help.
3. Check your website content. Your company's website should be treated just like a traditional store front. It is the first thing people see online, so a lot of care and time should be put into it. What does your website say to you? What message is it sending? Would YOU buy something from your site? Try to look at it objectively.
The bottom line is this- if you didn't get the results that you were hoping for in 2015- then it may be time to change some things up. You know how the old saying goes- "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results..."
Don't be a crazy person when it comes to running your business. When things need changing, be willing to change. If you don't know where to start, ask for help.
